Double Roll Crusher
The double roll crusher gives controlled secondary and tertiary reduction with the fewest fines of any crushing machine. Two counter-rotating rolls draw material into a fixed gap and break it there, so the product is closely sized rather than scattered across a wide gradation. Garnet Royal supplies it with smooth rolls for soft to hard ore and minerals and with toothed rolls for friable, brittle feed such as slag, chalk, soft limestone, coal, coke, and clay.

Should I specify smooth or toothed rolls?
Smooth rolls suit soft to hard ore and minerals where a clean, closely sized product is the priority, at reduction ratios up to 2.5:1 on hard, abrasive feed and 3:1 on soft, non-abrasive feed. Toothed rolls suit friable and brittle materials such as slag, chalk, soft limestone, coal, coke, and clay, accepting larger lumps and much higher tonnages.
Why does a roll crusher produce so few fines?
Material passes the gap once and is broken once. There is no repeated impact, no recirculation within the chamber, and no attrition zone, so particles are not reduced beyond the size the gap dictates. Where fines represent lost product value—in coal, fertilizer, or sized limestone, for example—that single-pass action is often worth more than raw throughput.
What throughput is available?
The model range covers 100 kg to 15 TPH, with toothed rolls working towards the upper end of that band and smooth rolls at more modest tonnages. Output depends on roll diameter and width, roll speed, the gap setting and the bulk density of the feed, so send us your material and target size and we will confirm the model.
Can the crusher handle damp or sticky material?
Better than most alternatives. The rolls positively draw feed into the gap instead of relying on gravity, so damp coal, clay-bound limestone and similar material that would bridge across a jaw crusher is pulled through. For persistently sticky duties we fit scraper bars against the roll faces to keep the shells clean during operation.
